6/13/2007 Our friend jack has a friend who has a summer home at Westerly, RI.     We started the road after 1 PM because I had a Citrix class in the morning.   The Map of the Westerly, RI is here:

They are big and nice houses there.    It was cold that evening around 6pm.   It was windy.  We saw several people surfing and going to surf.    There was also a Golf Club.  These are the summer houses.  Most of the people live here for vacation and weekend only.   There are many rabbits around here.

On the second day,  we went to Newport, Rhode Island to see the big mansions.   My friend said it has very high property tax there.  I could see that too because even when you are visiting the visiting center for Newport, you have to pay the parking even though the first 30 minutes is free.
We decide to visit the mansion, the Breakers.   We had to pay 16 dolalrs a person to visit the Breakers.  (http://newportmansion.com/page7016.cfm ( http://newportmansion.com/page7016.cfm)
even though each of the other houses is 11 dollars a person.  It is probably the most popular one.  If you see breakers and another one, you could have 5 dollars discount.  The tickets are good for one year and I found out that we do not have to buy the Breakers + 1 house deal at the time when you are purchasing the tickets for the Breakers.  ( http://tickets.newportmansions.org/mansion.aspx?id=1000).   We didn’t have another time, otherwise, I want to see the Elm’s, the Rosecliff or the Marble House.  They are good attractive.  Good thing that I didn’t have to decide which one. The owner of the breakers used to own the railroad station in New York city, the Grand Central Station.  We walked on the Cliffwalk, it was amazing.

After we came back from newport, RI, I was very hungry and decided to take Miko and Jack to a restaurant.  Jack said the restaurant in Newport is expensive even we asked the lady who sold us tickets in the visitor center.  It didn’t convinced us to eat there.  We went back to where we were staying.  Across the bridge on Weekapaug Rd, we were on the Atlantic Ave. where are lots of places to go, like deli, fish and chip, mini golf, beaches and restaurant.  Unortunately there were not many restaurants open because of the season.  I think it is the Misquamicut section.  It is good but not as nice as Weekapaug section where we are staying because it is more public section v.s. private section.   We went to maria’s where the food is above average but the prices were too high.  I didn’t even order any glasses of wine.  Jack seemed to enjoy the moment and ordered 2 glasses of wine and appetizers.
Anyway, it was our gratitude to him for bring us there to stay for free.

Third day, Jack was just kind of taking us around the neighberhood.  We passed the closeby Langworthy Winery and Jack said he will bring us back for the free wine testing even though I was joking to go right away.  But we did make it in the “last minute” and the owner of the winery who is also the B&B owner next door said he will let us in.   The oak barrels they used really give the wines very beautiful scents that I never have tested.   However, it was my first time to know the free wine testing isn’t free.  It cost 5 dollars a person plus tax for wine testing and a glass for each.  Before the winery, we went to the Watch Hill Beach and the shops nearby.   It seemed to me that we were also lost for an hour in that area when Jack was taking us around.  At Watch Hill Beach, there was a deli where Jack said they made excellent food.  We did eat there. We had our first sauteeted Robster Roll, the Rhode Island Clam Chowder and Blueberry pie which turned out a best choice ever.  I was ordering the Blueberry Cheesecake but I must say it wrong when I ordered. Jack said I said the pie , not cheesecake.  It was very tasty and not too sweet.
We forgot it was our Vegetarien Day though.   Sorry Buddha.

Almost every house in that area where we were staying are summer house.  You could see lots of rabbits around every house.  We went biking in the neighborhood in the afternoon of our last day there .  Miko was not there because she didn’t want to go biking.  We went to a bridge near the hotel where it was not open due to the season.  I found lots of jellyfishes floating with the current and lots of crabs beneath the bridges are trying to find food there.  Many of them were trying to catch the jellyfishes and some of them got one when I was watching.   They do eat jellyfishes.  Oh My.  I showed Jack what they were and then I tried to go beneath the bridge to catch crabs.  After that, Jack wanted to go to the small fish and chip place and ordered some.  I didn’t eat except the fries because I do not want to eat meat again today.  There was a sparrow very very close to us when we were eating.  I tried to put food as close as possible and it actually came like less than 1 foot to me to get the bread and flied away.
